Blind Iterative Decision Feedback Equalizers for Block Qam Transmission Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
A novel blind initialization procedure for iterative decision feedback equalizers in block-based transmission systems is proposed and investigated. It relies on an initial stage using Regalia’s blockbased Constant Modulus iterative algorithm for the blind computation of a linear equalizer; then a switch to decision feedback mode is performed. It is shown how the building blocks of the decision feedback equalizer (feedforward and feedback filters, automatic gain control and phase rotation) can be blindly estimated. Due to the unknown lag introduced by the blind linear equalizer, delay synchronization of the feedforward and feedback filters is also required. These filters are then refined over successive decision feedback iterations. This approach can also be used as a blind channel identifier for other block receiver designs, such as soft ISI cancelers and decoder-aided (i.e. turbo) equalizers.

A blind adaptation algorithm for decision feedback equalization for dual-mode CAP-QAM reception
− This paper introduces an algorithm for blind adaptation of decision feedback equalizers (DFE), which is applied for equalization in the passband domain. The transmission scheme, which is assumed to be unknown at the receiver side, can either be carrierless amplitude/phase (CAP) modulation or quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). As the input signal of the passband equalizer is real-valued, t...
متن کاملBlock FIR decision-feedback equalizers for filterbank precoded transmissions with blind channel estimation capabilities
In block transmission systems, transmitter-induced redundancy using finite-impulse response (FIR) filterbanks can be used to suppress intersymbol interference and equalize FIR channels irrespective of channel zeros. At the receiver end, linear or decision-feedback (DF) FIR filterbanks can be applied to recover the transmitted data. Closed-form expressions are derived for the FIR linear or DF fi...
متن کاملOn the Practical Aspects of Joint Passive Phase Conjugation and Equalization Underwater Communication Systems
Underwater acoustic communication systems suffer from the channel impairments which results in time spreading of the transmitted signal. In underwater environment, multiple replicas of the transmitted signal are received at the receiver through different paths, which causes significant Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI). Decision Feedback Equalizers (DFE) was utilized to overcome this type of inte...
متن کاملA Class of Block-Iterative Equalizers for Intersymbol Interference Channels
A new and efficient class of nonlinear equalizers is developed for intersymbol interference (ISI) channels. These “iterated-decision equalizers” use an optimized multipass algorithm to successively cancel ISI from a block of received data and generate symbol decisions whose reliability increases monotonically with each iteration. These equalizers have an effective complexity comparable to the d...
متن کاملMMSE–Based Iterative Equalization with Soft Feedback for QAM Transmission over Sparse Channels
In this paper, an equalization algorithm based on soft–decision feedback, designed for transmission with square QAM constellations is introduced. The algorithm employs a minimum mean–squared error (MMSE) filter in each iteration in order to refine the data estimates. The rule for generating soft decisions is adapted continuously to the current state of the algorithm. It is shown that the algori...
